Today is a special day. We get to sit down in our warm homes with our loving families and eat some wonderful food prepared by and for all the fortunate people in our lives. We get to talk about all the fun things that have happened to us and about all the good times to come. This is natural. We are family and this is what we do. I love this time of year as it always seems to put this added emphasis on family and being together.
I can’t help but wonder, however, no matter how hard I try, about all those people who have no food to eat, have no families to go home to, who have no homes period. And this breaks my heart. What about all of those people? To think about it is overwhelming, especially the children. The children simply take a piece of me.
So I say yes let’s be Thankful for what we have. Let’s enjoy what God has provided. Let’s embrace and love and cherish our families. But let’s also remember those who are less fortunate than we are. If you are able, take the time to volunteer to help in a food drive, give at work or wherever you come across the opportunity. And most of all pray that God would touch the hearts of those who are hurting. Pray that He would bless them and keep them safe. Pray that He would make himself known to them so that they too can know His love and His provision and also “Have a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!”
